“300??”

By Paul at 5:49 pm on Friday, March 16, 2007

Yep…  “300”. If you watch T.V. then you know what I am talking about…..  if you go out to watch movies then you definitely know what I am talking about. Yes “300” the movie, I know it was released last week but I hate the rush when a new movie starts. Some movies are worth it but some can wait and will be around for a few weeks so why rush to watch it? Anyway I haven’t seen it YET, but I am heading out in about 10 minutes to see it with my dad. He saw the previews a while back and has been now hounding me since last week to go watch it.

So here we are just sitting around on a Friday night and my Mother tells me she has some coupons for a $10.00 value to a movie. Well why not enjoy a free movie? I said to myself.. be back later and will try to tell you all I can about the movie, if I recommend it or not. I’m no critic, but any movies that the critics praise I avoid. I haven’t heard anything about this one yet (on purpose) so off to the Movies I go……

OUCH! update!

By Paul at 4:54 pm on Friday, March 16, 2007

A whole week later and it still hurts like a Son-of-a-B*ee*p! I have changed the Bandage once now and tonight I am airing it out. OMG!! it hurts when I try to move it…. My Doctor told me to move it around and bend it at the joints as much as I can, but with the bandages, I can’t bend it much cause the bandage holds it so well that it just holds it straight (like it’s in a cast).  When I was moving my thumb from the joint connected to my hand (so I move the WHOLE Thumb) it seemed to be healing and feeling much better as the days went on.  Little did I know the LACK of my moving the joints was actually making my thumb all stiff and the bandages just acted as a second skin so I couldn’t really feel how it really feels without a bandage.

Now with the bandage off and my allowing the wound to get some air, I realize just how much it can and does hurt.  Without the bandage I tried to move all the joints around, (my doctor told me to) because he said if I keep it all bandaged up for 4-5 weeks without trying to move it, it will be harder to get motion back in the joints for a lack of use for so long. I want to scream! cause it’s only been a week yet, when I try to move the knuckle joint, I can’t!

I’m not sure what’s going on with my WCB Claim now either cause of me being in School for my Apprenticeship.  I’ve applied for E.I. and WCB and from the sounds of it I will only get WCB for the Friday after my injury and E.I. for the 5 weeks I am attending School. well something is better than nothing I suppose.  I might have made a bit more income on WCB but seriously beggars can’t be choosers. (I’m the beggar at the moment). in the mean time here is a picture of the healing process after a week in a bandage! Stitches come out Monday the 19th! Looks gross EH!?

OMG!! WNP!!!

By Paul at 8:04 pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Did I get your attention.?? Well WOW!! When did this happen.?  OH YEAH!! it was today!! What a great idea!! Canada coming into 2007 finally!! they talked about it (it seems) for years!! but today we finally have Wireless Number Portability (WNP).  What a great way to increase competitive pricing and packages within the Cell Phone Market in Canada!

Oh! I have looked into going to another Cell Phone provider for a few years now.  Especially since I have and will plan to visit abroad more often. Mainly back to India and when I am there my Telus Phone doesn’t allow me the same freedom as does a phone from say, Fido or Rogers their GSM System which uses a SIM Card (Subscriber Identity Module)  is what I would need to have local cellular phone service visiting India or other countries using GSM. Not forgetting to mentionBell Canada. but both Bell and Telus are on a CDMA System. which seems not be too widely used in India as it is within North America. Sure they have companies that use the CDMA System in India but none have any support for a Phone from Telus and most likely Bell. Besides who would want to pay the Roaming Charges when over seas using your local number from Canada within India. I have been there done that..  will never do it again!

I’m not saying I dislike Telus I have been with Telus now since the mid 1990’s and I first had service with them in the early 1990’s too with a pager and 3 cell phones.  But where I am not happy is with the limitations in the Phone we are offered with Telus. the Asian and European Markets get WAY better phones with WAY better service plans than we do currently in Canada. I was about to say “better service plans than we do currently in North America”, but I know the US Markets have way better plans than we do in Canada. I could go on and on about what I don’t like about each of the Cell Phone Companies I mentioned in this post but I will save that for another post. For now I will leave it on a good note and close with…..

WE FINALLY HAVE WIRELESS NUMBER PORTABILITY IN CANADA!!

p.s. Now lets get the companies competing to keep their customers and see if we can’t reduce that 60% higher rate we pay for similar service than in the USA and even more than what they pay in Europe and Asia!!  For more information on this Please visit Wireless Number Portability in Canada.

Husband Charged!

By Paul at 7:29 pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2007

In My Opinion , I am glad they finally brought charges and hopefully very soon to justice those involved with the cowardly murder of a very caring and loving person we all knew as Bubbles…. I’m glad the police didn’t rush to place blame and lay charges on just anyone and in fact took their time to make sure they may have the right people that were involved and make sure they pay for what they did.  The worst thing that could have come out of all this is to have finally charged someone and they getting off on a technicality as we see so often on the news and TV shows all over the networks these days. Have a look at how I tried to put it all together in the early months here. and where it all started for me here.

Mukhtiar Panghali and his younger brother have been Charged with 2nd degree murder and accessory after the fact *respectively.   I think many of the public had their money on the husband right from the start.  It must have been a shock of all shocks for the family of Manjit Panghali to come to have to face the sad reality that their Son-In-Law may in fact be behind it all along.  My heart goes out to little Maya who will grow up to hear and read the stories of how her father may have been behind the murder and charring of her mother’s body.

I pray for all your souls and especially for the ones accused of these crimes to motherhood and womanhood all over the world.  I pray for your souls and hope you will find ‘some” place to spend the rest of your lives thinking about what you have done.  We live in a civilized country a simple divorce would have allowed Maya to have both a mother and father to grow up with, now she will only grow up to learn the sad stories about her father.

Read more Here. and Here!

I hope you can finally REST IN PEACE Manjit…..

My First day of School

By Paul at 7:30 pm on Monday, March 12, 2007

I’m Back at B.C.I.T. for my Level 3 Steel Fabrication Apprenticeship class.  This is the first time I have been in a FULL Class of 16 people.  I thought being the first day we’d just have some introductions on what to expect with The level 3 part of the apprenticeship, but we started working on Line development excercises like right away.

Seemed a little complicated at first but it really wasn’t once you got into it.  I was hoping we’d start any Shop time in the 2nd week of the 5 week Program, but as luck would have it we’re in the shop on Friday.  My Thumb still hurts and is all swollen so i don’;t know how that will affect my performance in the shop part this time around.  So far so good for the first day back I passed with 90% mark in Level 1 and 91% mark in Level 2 I’d like to keep it within the same range possibly in the mid 90’s if I can. Anyway wish me luck  🙂 The Thumb is doing fine….  Will have more updates next week when the Stitches are removed

Daylight Saving Time!!

By Paul at 6:18 pm on Sunday, March 11, 2007

Who remembered to turn their clocks ahead one hour last night or this morning when they woke up.?  I used to like the old First Sunday in April you “Spring” Forward an Hour and the Last Sunday in October we “Fall” Back an Hour. now we all need to remember it’s The 2nd Sunday of March that we Spring forward and the 1st Sunday of November that we Fall Back.  The History of DST was quite interesting to read up on, while I knew about some of the facts and reasons about DST the stuff I didn’t know was intriguing (to me anyway). I have a few links for you guys to see if you find any of it as interesting as I did.

So for my US  and other parts of the world friends you may want to have a look at this site (most were about the US when I googled DST) This site had many pages about other parts of the world too. For my Canadian friends have a look at this site and this link. It’s always funny when time changes an hour and some people show up to work an hour late, but I guess the debate is on if a longer DST period is better for our environment or not.

I know my country of birth India only has one time zone in all of India and it also stays on Standard time all year round. I’ve often wondered why they don’t change with the world too. Maybe the answers are in those links I provided.? I better go through all the pages just incase everything I want to know about DST is mentioned. Remember to always SPRING Forward and FALL Back during the correct Sunday of the Proper month from now on!

Thumb update

By Paul at 10:18 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2007

By now you all should know I hurt myself on Thursday evening at work, if not, have a look at this post. At the time I made those posts I didn’t have all the pictures together in one area and I didn’t want to have to email the pictures from my phone one at a time and pay for each email.  So instead I bought a Mini-SD Card for my phone and I transferred the Pictures and the video (you seen in the other post) to it and that was a lot easier to get those pictures and video to my PC I make all my Blog posts from.

So here we are with picture before Stitches, after Stitches and all bandaged up. Monday I will get pictures of the healing process and what it looks like after 4 days in a Bandage.  Approximately 4-5 days after that the stitches will be removed and I will make sure to keep you all updated on the healing by then also.  John says I need to hit my thumb more often, as I have made more posts to my blog in the last two days than all of February. I don’t know if hitting my thumb is the answer to my making blog posts…  but he might be onto something. I just have to figure out a way to put my thoughts in here on a daily basis rather than chatting it all away to people on my MSN and Yahoo! Messenger lists. Things that make you go Hmmmmmm…….?

So without further adue here are the Pictures I told you about…..

As I mentioned before I will make sure to take my proper Digital Camera along for the opening of the Bandages and removing of the Stitches. Sorry for the picture quality the Cell phone doesn’t do closeups.

Mangit Panghali Update

By Paul at 9:38 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2007

Well it has been a few months since we heard anything new about this case but it now seems like everyone who suspected the husband may just have been right. I heard on the Noon Hour news today that Mukhtiar Panghali had been arrested Friday afternoon. Charges are to be laid on Monday at a news conference.

Canadian Press
Saturday, March 10, 2007

But, on Saturday, Delta Police Sgt. Scott Lebus said he could neither ”confirm or deny anything at this time.”

You can read the full story here..

I will have to wait till Monday to hear and see what unfolds with this new development in this story and hopefully we can finally let manjit rest in peace once and for all.

There’s a NEW KEG in town!!

By Paul at 7:08 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2007

ok ok well it’s not a NEW one as in an additional one…  but the Old Delta Keg has grown up and is now opening up in a brand new location March 19th, 2007. I have not driven down Scott Road which runs along as no mans land between Delta, BC and Surrey, BC.  I live in Surrey and everything along Scott Road is either in Delta (West Side) or in Surrey (East Side).

The new KEG Looks Great from the outside and with an opening date of March 19th just around the corner I think John and I will have to go and let them all know we are still alive. John and I used to make it a weekly event back in 2003 to sometime in 2005 if memory serves me. Every Sunday night we’d go and feast on a very ritual like meal of Smirnoff Ice, The KEG’s yummy baked bread with the 3 cheese butter and the soft butter, we’d have the Scallopos and Bacon and the Garlic Baked Shrimp for appetizers. and we’d follow that up with a 12 Ounce New York cut.. Mine Med/Well and John Med/Rare. John would have the Mushrooms and I’d get the Green Beans. we’d both get some Raw tomatoes and it would be a very tasty yet VERY Filling meal and we would look forward to the next visit 7 days later.

Eventually things slowed down and we basically stopped going but i think back to those days a lot and when i found out about the new location opening I let John know about it and I think we may just have to get our weekly event going again..  what you think John.?? are you game.? hope to see some other friends join us too till then good eating to you all….

Delta Keg
6913 Scott Road
Delta, British Columbia
(604) 591-6161

Closing as of February 26, 2007. I had no Idea it had already closed…

Come visit us at our new location beginning March 19, 2007 at

What Timming!

By Paul at 10:41 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007

I hurt my thumb just days before I start my Level 3 Classes which I mentioned in the previous Post. I was actually looking forward to going to class again this year and learn something new. I will find out Monday March 12th, 2007 if I can actually attend classes or have to wait till the next Level 3 Class. I figure it shoudn’t be a problem as I am in a classroom more than I am in the shop at B.C.I.T. . I will have to update you all if all will be ok with my classes or not on Monday. My bandages also Open up on Monday so I will take some more pics of my thumb too…

OUCH!!!

By Paul at 10:33 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007

It hurts!! I found out yesterday at work what happens when you hit yourself with a hammer at almost full stroke on your thumb.  I’m still trying to figure out how heavy the hammer is but it’s a big Ball-Peen Hammer. I use it to stamp numbers on the work piece I am working on.  What work you say.? well I am A Steel Fabricator Apprentice currently in my 3rd of 4 levels of Classes of which I need to successfully complete 600 hours and 6400 Shop hours. Anyway here I was almost done the current piece i was working on and one of the final things we do is Stamp the part number and Job number on the top Left-Hand side of the piece to make it easier to identify when it is all painted and ready for shipping.

When I first struck my finger I almost thought nothing of it as I have hit myself many times… unfortunately not quite like this time though. I had on my gloves and I almost continued working but something told me to have a look before I continued. So I removed my glove and WOW!! where’d all the blood come from.? I grabbed the nearest rag I could find to wipe up all the blood and I went looking for the first aid attendant.  He saw me and asked what happened I explained best i could and we continued into the First Aid room where he cleaned and dressed the wound and decided it looks worse than it initially did and i would need to to go the hospital and get some stitches.

My main concern was my tools not my thumb,  I had many of them out and I wanted ot make sure they were all put away before I left to the hospital.  So I quickly put away the tools and locked my tool box as I anticipated being in the Emergency Ward of Surrey Memorial Hospital for 4-5 hours waiting inline to be treated.  Jesse (A fellow Employee) drove me to the emergency room and I was amazed at how quick I was looked after. Sure I had to wait a few minutes here and a few at the next stage but where I thought it would be wait times in hours… it was no more than 2-4 minutes to get someone looking after me.  I went into the Minor Treatment Center or something to that effect and there I was given some forms to fill out and was sent to get some X-Rays taken.  The X-rays took no more than 5 minutes to get 3 X-Rays done and it’s all digital imaging now goes straight to a computer screen.  Once back from the X-Rays I was taken into a room and told I also had a hairline fracture so not surprised at the results of my ingury.  I laid down on a bed and the doctor came in and stitched me up.  I had 4 stitches was cleaned up and all bandaged up and on my way within an hour of arriving at The Emergency Ward.

Here is a pic before the stitches to get an idea of the wound I have more pictures but they didn’t come out too great I will Post more tomorrow but for now have a look. this was taken with my Phone.

OUCH.jpg

After the Stitches… best I could do with my cell….

OK now I know how to do the Youtube thing too!! whoo hoo!! isn’t that yummy??

Pho! with a Furry Blue Monster!!

By Paul at 6:22 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2007

SO here we are a day…. week…..  Hell it’s a new month!!  OMG!  a new Year even!!  So i suppose it’s time I posted something….  seems like any other day when I woke up this morning… but today I had a chance to meet and have lunch with Gary of  BlueFur.com and he was in Blue too,  Not sure about the whole FUR part…. but ironically enough, we had PHO for lunch..  now some people pronounce it FURR  some FOE.  some say it’s more of a ….  ummm….  hmmmmm  ok I have no idea how to spell that one.. Our Saturday afternoon lunches usually have about 4-5 people attend but today we had a Grand total of 12..  next time I need to take my camera along with me…. Let me see if I can introduce all 12..

Here we go then, lets start off with someone that everyone seems to love to hate or is it hates to love.?? but anyway when you know it’s Mr. John Chow himself I am speaking of you be the judge do you hate him or love him..  I have known John now for many years closing in on 10 years, pretty soon I think. Along with John was his wife Sarah and the ever adorable Sally.  My dad came with me and we met up with Wolfgang, another long time attendee of our Saturday lunches, Ed was there with his wacky sense of life and if you can call it humor, but he knows it wouldn’t be a PHO experience without him now…  Steven graced us with his presence from his busy life (NOT!!) as well..  Michael was there but was too far to speak with, but we did yell over at each other. he’s what they call a Comment whore!! I just learned that about him today. Greg whom I met a few months ago finally showed up after everyone else but ended up getting his bowl of Pho WAY Before me, that was just not right. Mentioned earlier Gary with his friend Reiner. Wow! we really did have 12 people today, maybe one day we take over the whole damn restaurant and see what trouble we can get into with Lan the owner. I know what he might say to that though…..  “WHATEVER!!! PAUL!!”

Huh??? “Related Posts”??

By Paul at 8:48 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2007

Someone please explain to me how this “Related Posts” feature works…  I mean how can you have One post related to another yet when you go to that post to read it it doesn’t link back to the original post as a “Related Post”…

I mean have a look at this….  “My time at George Third & Son” is related to “I got the Job!!”

my-time_c.jpg

Yet when you read the “I Got The Job!!” post, it has “No related posts”.

i-got-the-job_c.jpg

I’m no expert on how this all works or anything but it can’t be right..  Can it.???

My time at George Third & Son…

By Paul at 11:06 am on Thursday, January 18, 2007

Wow… where to begin.?? I may have to think about this one for a bit before I make an actual Post about it. Although I will say I was only there for a period of One month 4 weeks exactly minus one day which was a Stat. Now let me ponder how much I want to say about them and just how badly I want to bash them for their conduct about me.
See you back in a few.

SNOW!!

By Paul at 11:02 am on Thursday, January 18, 2007

ok seriously what’s up with the weather.?  Are we now Toronto.?? I hear they haven’t had “ANY” Snow yet and here we are with countless times of snow fall and freezing temperatures that usually Montreal gets.  Not sure I want ot move to Toronto be cause of this but I think we are in for a HOT Summer if the winter is any kind of indication of what to prepare for this spring/summer.

We are obiously not prepared for this kind of weather out in the west as far as the whole having salt trucks we need more of them,  I mean we’re so use to a mild wet winter where snow is usually just seen up in the mountains.  What more can we expect.??  I don’t think anyone knows for sure….  Lets see what hap[pens in the coming days and lets hope Toronto takes its weather back soon.

Update to the Fence..

By Paul at 2:43 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2006

So they came and did all the repairs… turns out The part of the fence that went beyond my house on the East side of my property was all Solely owned by the neighbor. and he still has to get his part repaired. and it’s kind of funny cause he knows what he has to do as far as getting it repaired for free… but he can’t expect us to hold his hand through it now does he.?

Both insurance companies got in contact with one another and did what they had to do..  not a penny out of our pockets was required…  I will have to add some pictures..  but not yet  it’s way to cold to go out there to take pictures…  So.. all in all we are a satisfied customers.

thanx for coming back…..

look for new posts and updates coming soon…..
